Market Commentary - Pre Session
Date:
May-21-2025 08:52
After facing a sharp decline in the previous session, Dalal Street is expected to open on a subdued note today, as indicated by GIFT Nifty. Investor sentiment remains under pressure due to ongoing global trade uncertainties, persistent foreign institutional investor (FII) selling, and a lackluster Q4 earnings season.
The market will respond to earnings announced by companies such as United Spirits, Torrent Pharma, and Whirlpool. Additionally, investors will be closely watching the upcoming results from a host of companies, including Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, InterGlobe Aviation, Power Finance Corporation, Mankind Pharma, NTPC Green Energy, Rail Vikas Nigam, Colgate-Palmolive (India), Oil India, IndusInd Bank, UNO Minda among others.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81186.44 down by -872.98 points or by -1.06 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24683.9 down by -261.55 points or by -1.05 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets traded higher on Wednesday, even as Wall Street's six-day winning streak came to an end.
The Nikkei was trading flat, while the broader Topix index rose 0.27 per cent. The Kospi gained 1.14 per cent, and ASX 200 was up 0.6 per cent.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 fell 0.39 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.38 per cent, and the Dow dropped 0.27 per cent. The retreat was led by a pullback in tech stocks, which had been at the forefront of the recent rally.
