Markets in India were poised for a slower start on the last trading session of Samvat 2080, amid mixed global cues. At 7:30 AM, GIFT Nifty futures were trading at 24,288, around 80 points behind Nifty futures last close.
Markets could also see some volatility today on the back of Nifty options' monthly expiry today, October 31. On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 79942.18 down by -426.85 points or by -0.53 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24340.85 down by -126 points or by -0.51 %.
On the global front, Markets in the Asia Pacific region were down on Thursday morning as investors await the Bank of Japan’s rate decision, as well as key business activity figures from China.
The Shanghai Composite was trading lower by 0.33 per cent, while the CSI300 was down 0.22 per cent. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index, the only frontline index trading higher in Asia, was ahead by 0.19 per cent. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 was down 0.47 per cent, while the broad based Topix slipped 0.49 per cent.
South Korea’s Kospi was down 1.24 per cent, leading losses in Asia, while the small cap Kosdaq was down 0.20 per cent. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was trading lower by 0.36 per cent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 91.51 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 42,141.54, the S&P 500 fell 19.25 points, or 0.33 per cent, to 5,813.67 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 104.82 points, or 0.56 per cent, to 18,607.93.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 388.63 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 101466.73 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 678834 with a total turnover of Rs. 46063.99 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 3596053 with a total turnover of Rs. 275930.80 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 767909215 with a total turnover of Rs. 57563012.30 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 8182472 with a total turnover of Rs. 646427.22 Crore.
The FIIs on 30/10/2024 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 15839.43 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 975.67 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 16732.06 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 913.70 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -892.63 Crore and Rs. 61.97
