    Market Commentary - Pre Session

    The SGX Nifty, on Friday, indicated a muted open for benchmark indices as it stood around 18,423 levels, down 43-odd points, amidst mixed sentiments across global markets. On the result front, Sun Pharma, ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Grasim Industries, Shree Renuka Sugars, Info Edge, are some of the prominent names that will report January-March quarter results.

    On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 61872.62 up by 98.84 points or by 0.16 % and then NSE Nifty was at 18321.15 up by 35.75 points or by 0.2 %.

    On the global front, the US markets traded mixed overnight as investors awaited signs for debt ceiling deal.

    That said, better-than-expected earnings from software company Nvidia helped NASDAQ Composite index gain over 1 per cent, while Dow Jones declined 0.1 per cent, and the S&P 500 was up 0.8 per cent.

    In Asia-Pacific, markets largely edged higher this morning after Japanese headline inflation eased to 3.2 per cent in May from 3.5 per cent in April. Nikkei 225, Topix, and Kospi indices rose up to 0.4 per cent, whereas Hong Kong markets were closed for a holiday.

    Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Steel Ltd. 25885062.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 19328582.00, ITC Ltd. 18204464.00, State Bank of India 16479436.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 14888465.00,

    On NSE, total number of shares traded was 27.97 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 55552.25 Crore.

    On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 493469 with a total turnover of Rs. 48461.76 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 2130455 with a total turnover of Rs. 148177.76 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 436433684 with a total turnover of Rs. 44589827.41 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 3241260 with a total turnover of Rs. 229396.36 Crore.

    The FIIs on 25/05/2023 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 8466.09 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 489.57 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6968.23 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 204.39 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1497.86 Crore and Rs. 285.18
