On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in extensive discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, with a primary focus on enhancing bilateral trade and defense collaborations. Bin Salman is presently in India on a state visit following the conclusion of the G20 Summit. Before their discussions, the Crown Prince received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan's forecourt.
Expressing his satisfaction about being in India, Bin Salman remarked to reporters after the ceremonial welcome, "I am very glad to be here in India. I want to congratulate India for the G20 Summit." He also emphasized that the summit's announcements would have global benefits and expressed his commitment to working together to build a promising future for both countries.
Saudi Arabia holds a pivotal position as one of India's key strategic partners in the Middle East, and their bilateral relations have demonstrated a significant upward trajectory in recent years. Additionally, both nations have been actively strengthening their defense and security partnership. In a historic move, the Chief of Army Staff at the time, General MM Naravane, visited Saudi Arabia in December 2020, marking the first-ever visit by the head of India's 1.3 million-strong Army to this important Gulf nation. Subsequently, a series of high-ranking military officials from both sides have exchanged visits.
