Headline : Sensex down 479 pts, Nifty50 below 17K; All sectors bleed

Domestic markets opened lower on Monday, amid subdued global cues. Broader markets, too, edged lower in trade as Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices dropped up to 0.3 per cent. Volatility index, India VIX, meanwhile, jumped over 11 per cent.

All sectors drowned in the sea of red, with Nifty IT, Nifty Metal, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty Media indices declining over 1 per cent each.

Among individual stocks, shares of SJVN gained over 1 per cent after the company's green energy subsidiary bagged a 200 megawatt solar project.

At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 57510.34 down by -479.56 points or by -0.83 % and then NSE Nifty was at 16942.85 down by -157.2 points or by -0.92 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 57829.23 and intraday low of 57424.76 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17066.6 and intraday low of 16932.95

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2461.55,+0.54%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1697.80,+0.39%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 412.05,-1.65%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 105.30,-1.63%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1280.25,-1.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1108.50,-1.59%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1399.20,-1.52%), among others.

Power index was at 3638.15 up by -4.42 points or by -0.12%. Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 845.20,+3.48%), Adani Transmission Ltd. (Rs. 1041.20,+1.60%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 3294.80,+0.39%), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 3315.65,+0.21%),. Metal index was at 19171.43 down by -337.7 points or by -1.73%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 79.67,-4.33%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 86.00,-2.92%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 387.30,-2.38%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 218.40,-1.86%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 663.95,-1.81%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3141 , shares advanced were 1106 while 1883 shares declined and 152 were unchanged.
