Headline : Sensex rises 300 pts, Nifty above 15,950; Energy, Metals rally

The key benchmark indices started Tuesday's session with nominal gains as Asian markets advanced.

On the flip side, NTPC, PowerGrid, Sun Pharma, Cipla, Tech M, Nestle and Asian Paints were the top losers on the two benchmarks.

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices also opened in the positive territory, rising up to 0.7 per cent.

Sectorally, Metal, Energy, Power, PSU and Bankex indices held strong gains on the BSE, up 1-2 per cent. While, IT and Pharma indices were subdued.

At 9:38 hours, the 30-shate benchmark index was trading at 53305.64 up by 331.8 points or by 0.63 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15966.85 up by 124.55 points or by 0.79 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 53400.12 and intraday low of 53176.02 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 15973.2 and intraday low of 15900.8

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1148.15,+3.98%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2462.00,+1.43%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 692.65,+1.38%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2244.55,+1.22%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 700.65,+1.13%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2966.35,-1.10%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 882.00,-0.42%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1486.05,-0.21%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1185.50,-0.18%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 148.20,-0.17%), among others.

Metal index was at 18807.74 up by 746.69 points or by 4.13%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 307.50,+7.09%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 415.30,+6.15%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1148.15,+3.98%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 478.40,+3.50%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 290.60,+2.96%),.

Realty index was at 3133.36 down by -3.87 points or by -0.12%. Sunteck Realty Ltd. (Rs. 404.50,-1.21%), Macrotech Developers Ltd. (Rs. 913.00,-0.94%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 325.20,-0.67%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 434.75,-0.50%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 546.05,-0.49%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2838 , shares advanced were 2071 while 655 shares declined and 112 were unchanged.
