The key benchmark indices opened firmly higher on Friday tracking gains in US equity futures and Asian markets.

Among the Sensex-30 shares, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's, Titan, Bajaj Twins, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, SBI, ITC, M&M, Tech M and Reliance were the top gainers, up to 3 per cent higher. Tata Motors, UPL, Apollo Hopitals and Coal India were the additonal winners on Nifty.

On the flip side, Bharti Airtel, L&T, TCS, NTPC and SBI Life were the handful of losers on the two benchmarks.

At 9:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 53328.39 up by 398.08 points or by 0.75 % and then NSE Nifty was at 16014.8 up by 206.8 points or by 1.31 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 53625.25 and intraday low of 53257.69 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 16015.1 and intraday low of 15923.05

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 882.60,+3.82%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 2097.30,+2.39%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3955.55,+2.08%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2450.15,+2.05%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2184.70,+2.04%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 701.50,-0.60%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 147.75,-0.57%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3393.40,-0.52%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1299.40,-0.28%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 472.80,-0.21%), among others.

HCS index was at 22473.65 up by 478.24 points or by 2.17%. Venus Remedies Ltd. (Rs. 234.10,+13.23%), Syncom Formulation (India) Ltd. (Rs. 9.03,+5.86%), Take Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 22.15,+5.48%), Nureca Ltd. (Rs. 1017.90,+5.15%), Shalby Ltd. (Rs. 108.70,+4.02%),.

TECk index was at 13654.37 down by 38.21 points or by 0.28%. Indus Towers Ltd. (Rs. 190.25,-5.63%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 701.50,-0.60%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3393.40,-0.52%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 472.80,-0.21%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 3694.00,-0.13%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2897 , shares advanced were 2241 while 564 shares declined and 92 were unchanged.
