Headline : Pre-Session: Sensex, Nifty likely to open higher; Asian markets gain

After cracking over 2 per cent each the previous day, the Sensex and Nifty are likely to open higher on Friday tracking gains in US equity futures and firm Asian markets. High inflationary pressures continue to sting investor confidence and prospects of strong corporate earnings.

On Thursday, domestic retail inflation for April came at a 8-year high of 7.8 per cent, paving the way for more policy rate hikes by the central bank even as factory output growth remained lacklustre at 1.9 per cent in March.

On Thursday the 30-share benchmark indices ended at 52930.31 down by -1158.08 points or by -2.14 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15808 down by -359.1 points or by -2.22 %.

On the global front, In the US, the Dow slid 0.33 per cent, the S&P 500 fell 0.13 per cent, and the Nasdaq closed 0.06 per cent higher.

Asian markets were higher this morning. Hang Seng and Nikkei fell up rose 1.8 and 2.4 per cent, respectively. Strait Times and Kospi gained up to 1.6 per cent. Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Component advanced 0.97 and 0.7 per cent, respectively.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 24.13 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 56661.92 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 598819 with a total turnover of Rs. 48837.02 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 987869 with a total turnover of Rs. 59821.28 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 247307327 with a total turnover of Rs. 20477747.16 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 1780505 with a total turnover of Rs. 122428.38 Crore.

The FIIs on 12/05/2022 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6025.89 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 515.09 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 9029.47 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 491.88 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -3003.58 Crore and Rs. 23.21
