Equity benchmark indices rallied sharply to close Wednesday's session, lifted by sustained strength in index heavyweights like Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank and Maruti. Reliance Industries closed 3.6 per cent higher, making up 58 per cent of Sensex gains after Goldman Sachs raised target price on the stock.

Among sectors, Nifty Realty gained most, up 0.85 per cent, while Nifty PSU Bank was the top loser that fell nearly 1 per cent. FMCG, IT and Pharma pockets were other underperformers, which closed in red.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 72996.31 up by 526.01 points or by 0.73 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22123.65 up by 118.95 points or by 0.54 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 73138.73 and intraday low of 72600.73 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22193.6 and intraday low of 22052.85

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2987.85,+3.60%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12550.00,+2.40%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 7023.20,+1.63%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3756.30,+1.52%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1775.00,+1.14%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 472.20,-1.57%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3837.50,-1.02%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1547.25,-1.02%), State Bank of India (Rs. 734.05,-0.81%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2567.40,-0.79%), among others.

CGS index was at 60018.27 up by 593.35 points or by 1%. ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 6270.00,+5.70%), Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. (Rs. 15121.50,+4.70%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 38.55,+3.94%), V-Guard Industries Ltd. (Rs. 331.80,+3.72%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 5285.20,+3.61%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4236 , shares advanced were 1671 while 2410 shares declined and 155 were unchanged.
