Headline : Post-Session: Benchmarks rally for 8th day, Nifty settles above 18,800

The domestic equity barometers ended with decent gains on Thursday, rising for the eighth trading session. Positive global cues boosted investor sentiments. The Nifty closed above the 18,800 level. IT, PSU bank and media stocks were in demand. On the flip side, oil & gas, FMCG and auto shares declined. Trading was volatile due to expiry of weekly index options on the NSE.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 63284.19 up by 184.54 points or by 0.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 18812.5 up by 54.15 points or by 0.29 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 63583.07 and intraday low of 63183.77 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 18887.6 and intraday low of 18778.2

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 7279.10,+2.86%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 110.70,+2.79%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3475.10,+2.44%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1101.80,+2.27%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 413.60,+1.63%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 939.95,-1.41%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1293.35,-1.06%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 221.90,-0.94%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2662.65,-0.65%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1933.75,-0.61%), among others.

IT index was at 31131.18 up by 620.08 points or by 2.03%. L&T Technology Services Ltd. (Rs. 4156.15,+8.99%), Subex Ltd. (Rs. 34.15,+6.89%), Birlasoft Ltd. (Rs. 323.85,+6.13%), Cybertech Systems & Software Ltd. (Rs. 135.90,+6.05%), Nelco Ltd. (Rs. 795.85,+5.68%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3875 , shares advanced were 2207 while 1488 shares declined and 180 were unchanged.
