Headline : Sensex soars 324 pts, Nifty crosses 24,500

Indian bourses opened on a positive note on Friday, with BSE Sensex adding 119 points to 80,158, while the Nifty50 index rose marginally by 17 points to 24,423 levels.

On BSE Sensex Tech Mahindra led the losses, down 53, followed by IndusInd Bank, Maruti and L&T among others, while Bharti Airtel rose by 2 per cent, followed by TCS, Tata Steel, Infosys and Kotak Bank among others.

At 9:50 hours, he 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80364.52 up by 324.72 points or by 0.41 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24526.6 up by 120.5 points or by 0.49 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 80390.24 and intraday low of 80013.6 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24528.95 and intraday low of 24410.9

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 160.85,+2.16%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1863.00,+2.06%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 892.10,+2.02%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1477.60,+1.95%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1612.00,+1.50%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1496.75,-2.18%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1601.00,-0.95%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2464.45,-0.64%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2693.90,-0.57%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1193.45,-0.38%), among others.

Metal index was at 31952.01 up by 688.79 points or by 2.2%. NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 237.00,+3.09%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 146.50,+3.02%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 505.85,+2.80%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 443.35,+2.66%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 961.50,+2.52%),.

FMCG index was at 22456.33 down by -30.93 points or by -0.14%. Andrew Yule & Company Ltd. (Rs. 57.55,-3.31%), United Breweries Ltd. (Rs. 2062.70,-2.14%), Heritage Foods Ltd. (Rs. 573.55,-2.04%), Vadilal Industries Ltd. (Rs. 4228.75,-1.84%), Dodla Dairy Ltd. (Rs. 1190.65,-1.60%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3397 , shares advanced were 2404 while 883 shares declined and 110 were unchanged.
