Indian equities opened with deep cuts in sync with losses in other Asian peers. The broader markets also showed weakness, with the MidCap index dropping by 0.67 per cent and the SmallCap index declining by 0.16 per cent.

Asian stock markets are trading mostly lower on Thursday, following the broadly negative cues from global markets overnight, led by steep declines for technology stocks. Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea and Hong Kong are down 1.8 and 1.2 percent, respectively.

At 9:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 79698.74 down by -450.14 points or by -0.56 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24239.35 down by -174.15 points or by -0.71 %.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 1053.30,+2.50%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3586.35,+1.90%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6630.35,+0.31%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1750.85,+0.27%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1588.35,+0.24%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1168.80,-5.72%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1203.65,-1.55%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 157.85,-1.53%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 869.35,-1.37%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 332.60,-1.35%), among others.

On the sectoral front, CGS index was at 72028.93 up by 469.51 points or by 0.66%. Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 63.44,+4.50%), CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 720.05,+3.41%), Timken India Ltd. (Rs. 4118.40,+3.22%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Rs. 705.30,+2.65%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3586.35,+1.90%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3324 , shares advanced were 1637 while 1576 shares declined and 111 were unchanged.
