Indian benchmarks opened a tad lower on Wednesday, a day after the Budget raised tax on long-term capital gains and short-term capital gains on listed equity shares and equity-oriented funds.

Shares of Titagarh Rail Systems rallied 3 percent after the company said it has commenced the export of traction converters. SpiceJet rose 1 percent on fund raising reports.

Among key stocks, Dr Reddy's Laboratories dropped 1 percent ahead of a board meet on Saturday to consider stock split. Nestle India fell nearly 2 percent and Hero Moto Corp dropped 1.4 percent.

At 11:24 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80197.58 down by -231.46 points or by -0.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24451.45 down by -27.6 points or by -0.11 %.

In the volatile trade so-far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 80519.58 and intraday low of 80087.29 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24504.25 and intraday low of 24373.45.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 1027.05,+2.57%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1523.15,+1.96%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 389.30,+1.82%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 3012.60,+1.24%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 497.70,+1.15%), among others.

Whereas, The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6584.85,-2.19%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1584.45,-2.06%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1238.20,-1.95%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2778.85,-1.56%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2540.75,-1.54%), among others.

Among the sectors, Power index was at 7912.5 up by 88.15 points or by 1.13%. Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 60.71,+5.00%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1541.15,+3.28%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 389.30,+1.82%), Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 1734.15,+0.95%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 336.85,+0.85%),.

On the flip side, Auto index was at 57089.76 down by -175.52 points or by -0.31%. Cummins India Ltd. (Rs. 3506.35,-1.98%), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3998 , shares advanced were 2756 while 1082 shares declined and 160 were unchanged.
